Trusting God

This God–His way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him. ESV Psalm 18:30

Yesterday morning my wife and I enjoyed a coffee date at our favorite coffee spot. During our date, we did our customary review of our spiritual lives, our marriage, the kids, the adoption process, the calendar. We discussed where we were with everything and mostly discussed what God was doing in our lives…individually and collectively. We concluded that while we we never know the future, we were could see God’s hand at work in our lives and we were confident in that.

The verse above proclaims boldly God’s way is perfect. Not just good, decent, workable, but perfect. It’s ideal. It’s the life we have always wanted. For this reason, we must make every effort to acknowledge Him in all our ways and let Him direct our paths. With our spiritual lives, our marriage, our children, the adoption process, our holiday calendar–in each of these we want God to reveal His perfect way. The psalmist continues that God’s Word proves true. Hence we have encouragement to spend time in His Word each day. My wife and I regularly share with each other things we have learned from His Word, and we draw strength the promises He makes in His Word will prove true in the future. With all the uncertainty in the world, it’s only through the certainty of God’s Word that we can face challenging situations and know we will thrive. Finally, we know God is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Over the past few months, we have both sought to rest in God more and deepen our dependence on Him. In this process He has shown Himself strong, and we see numerous miracles at work. He truly is a shelter and shield in every situation.

I don’t know your spiritual condition. If you have a strong trust in God through Jesus, then this short blog resonates with you because you have experienced His perfect way. If you are a follower of Jesus, but struggling, be encouraged His way is perfect, His Word will prove true, and He is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Finally, if you have never considered trusting God through Jesus, may you trust God for everything through Jesus Christ.
